A Little Bit About Venturing With God In Congo

This book as it all. You will find adventure, adversity, far off places, and of course the love of God. The book begins with an overview of how Louise and Darrell began their missionary ministry in Congo.

Louise comes from a long line of missionaries, and was even born in Congo. It only makes sense that she would become a missionary herself. However, Darrell was born in America, and did not have the long history in the mission fields. What he did have, was a strong church family that fostered his love of Christ and helped him develop his evangelism skills. As a young person, he ministered in such places as Skid Row. This only intensified his desire to help the lost find salvation.

The rest of the story is told through a collection of vignettes. Each short story tells of another part of the Champlin’s time in Congo. From tales of spiders, snakes and even leopards coming in or near their home to witch doctors, each story keeps you on the edge of your seat.

We get to see first-hand that humans were quite often the biggest threat. Government conficts and the threat of war is ultimately the reason the Champlins end of having to leave Congo. Through each exciting story, we get to see the amazing ways that God works

Our Thoughts…

Seth (age 14)

“I think that this book has a perspective that would intrigue many readers that may not have heard this story before. It’s a collection of stories throughout their years of missionary work. The stories are interesting and involved things I had never heard of before.”

Chris (Mom)

“This is a wonderful story and would be a great book to read together as a family. As a parent I really connected to just how hard this was for the Champlin family when they were constructing box beds to keep their children safe at night. Although this book is full of adventure, this really is a great story for the whole family. Since this book is told as a collection of short stories, it is great for busy moms like me. Each story is pretty short, so you don’t feel like you have to tackle the whole book at once. Although you may want to.”
