Teaching Made Easy With Reading Eggs From Blake eLearning Inc. (Review)

Disclaimer:  I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

Many parents find themselves homeschooling their children for the first time this year. While this is definitely an exciting journey, it can also be a bit scary when you are new. We have been using Reading Eggs from Blake eLearning Inc. for awhile now. When we heard that they have added a few new features to their already wonderful curriculum, we were excited to get the opportunity to review them. Here is what we found…

A Little Bit About Reading Eggs

Reading Eggs is an online curriculum designed for early learners that covers both math (Mathseeds) and language arts (Reading Eggs and Fast Phonics). It has a video game feel with fun characters and learning games that keep young students engaged. Reading Eggs is set up so that students travel along a learning path where each lesson is a stop in the road.

Every so often the stop is a quiz. The student must pass the quiz in order to move on in the pathway. Parents receive an email each time a quiz is completed with the score and what skills were covered. There is also a parent portal section that allows parents to review student progress.

Reading Eggs also offers workbooks and storybooks that supplement what is taught in the online program. These extra resources use the same charactures as the online program, but provide additional practice for students.

Reading Eggs begins with very simple concepts such as letter and sound recognition and works up to reading sentences and simple books. Mathseeds begins with number recognition and works its way up to simple addition, subraction, multiplication and division.

How We Use This Product

My daughter has been using Reading Eggs for a while now, and we love it! She works in Reading Eggs on Mondays and Wednesdays and Mathseeds on Tuesdays and Thursdays, completing one lesson per week. Typically she can get through an entire lesson in one day, so the second day of the week she reviews the lesson a second time.

Recently, Reading Eggs added Fast Phonics. This is another online program included with the subcription that covers phonics. My daughter does a couple of lessons on Fridays. She finds the lessons very fun.

New Features We Are Excited About

As I mentioned, the newest feature to Reading Eggs is the Fast Phonics, and we are in love. The program is set up much like the others with a pathway format that provides lessons and quizzes for students along the way. The one big difference is that students earn treasure such as coins and jewels to add to the treasure box. My daughter loves earning her treasures.

Where Reading Eggs works on phonics skills, Fast Phonics takes it even further. Students are given letter blends and shown visually as well as auditorily how the letters work together to make word sounds. The program offers games and engaging activities to keep students motivated. And, just as with the other programs, students will not be able to work past a quiz without a passing score. However, all three programs allow the learner to repeat lessons numerous times to gain mastery.

Review Crew Thoughts…

You don’t have to take our word for it though. Other Review Crew families have also been working hard to bring you a great review. I highly recommend checking out all of the Review Crew reviews.
