A Little Bit About Heirloom Audio

Heirloom Audio is a company that works to provide quality Christian entertainment for children.  They produce Audio Adventures similar to the radio programs of old.  Each adventure is brought to life using talented voice actors, great sound affects, and your imagination.  These are not just an audio book, as they do not follow the book word for word.  Instead they are more like a play brought to life with sound.  Your family can enjoy these adventures via CD or digital download.  Our family prefers the CD, as we like to pop them in the CD player in the car as we go out on errands.

A Little Bit About St. Bartholomew’s Eve

Our family was not aware of St. Bartholomew’s Massacre prior to this review, so we got to learn of this time in history via Heirloom Audio.  The story begins with a few boys who do not want to attend their local church service.  An older gentleman then explains to them that gathering in church and worshiping how you wan to worship was not always legal. He then begins to explain the story of the Huguenots and the St. Bartholomew’s Massacre.

This story is full of adventure, which our boys love.  We were pleasantly surprised that this story coincides well with a study on the Full Armor of God.  One of the characters actually prays Ephesians 6:11 as he dresses and prepares for an upcoming battle.  We also loved hearing about all of the faith and ingenuity of the characters as they faced great adversity.

In one part of the story, they were trying to hold a fortress.  They were sorely out numbered and were sure they would all die in the next attack.  Instead of laying down in defeat, they prayed and worshiped, and eventually God gave them the most outrageous plan.  To take and kill all of the cattle, stack them up against the door to the fortress and pour slippery oil over them to make it more difficult for the invaders to get in.  It worked!

It really shows our youth that even when things look dire and we don’t feel like we can go on another moment, God will provide.  Our boys love the Full Armor of God illustration, and this tale certainly adds to that relevance.

A Little Bit About How We Used This Product

It was sort of funny just how timely this review was, as when the CD arrived, we were nearing the end of a series on the Full Armor of God.  We used this CD as a way for us to further this study.  It gave us a particular battle in history to think of as we studied each peace of armor.  Ephesians 6:11 seemed to jump right of the page as the boys had a picture in their mind of how each was applied in the story.

Our Thoughts…

Seth (age 12)

“What I liked about St. Bartholomew’s Eve was the sound effects.  I think it had a nice story that was well developed.  There was lots of great dialog, but along with it there was narration that helped you understand more what was going on.  I think that this story helped me understand persecution of Huguenots.”

Zach (age16)

“I liked all of the battles.  It was cool that the story tied in with our study of the Full Armor of God.”

Chris (mom)

“I really love the quality of this CD.  They use experienced actors, and it really shows.  It really helped our boys learn what true Christian persecution looked like, and why we should be proud to be able to worship without hiding in fear.”

Review Crew Thoughts…
