I may be dating myself here, but who remembers having to learn how to make their name flash across the screen of the school’s Apple IIe computer screen? This was definitely a wow moment of my growing up years. Today, kids would look at me like the old person that I am for getting excited over something so small. Our children need to know much more than how to flash their names on a screen to succeed in today’s world. This is why I was so excited to get the opportunity to review Coding for Kids Annual Membership from Simply Coding. Here is what we found…
A Little Bit About Simply Coding
Simply Coding was founding in 2013 after a discussion among the founders regarding how coding had helped them in their professional life. They realized that coding is not something that is typically taught in schools, and decided this needed to change. Simply Coding was developed and first launced in a summer camp format. Today, Simply Coding is available to homeschoolers, camps, and really anyone wanting to increase their knowledge of the digital world.
A Little Bit About Coding for Kids Annual Membership
Coding for Kids Annual Membership provides users with a vast course list that puts students on the path to becoming digitally literate. There are two options for membership, single or family. The family membership allows access to up to three students. If you aren’t completely sure if this is the right option for your family, they do offer a 10 day free trial to allow you time to see what they have to offer.
If you plan to use this as a high school credit for your student as I do, you will be happy to find that they provide a guide for how many credits each course should be worth. For example, my son is currently taking Intro to Websites, and it is listed as being worth .25 credits or roughly about a quarter long course. Since there are 8 lessons, and the course if about a quarter long, he should be completing about a lesson per week. This makes it so much easier for me to keep track of things for his transcripts.
Coding for Kids Annual Membership doesn’t just offer coding courses either. My son was pleasantly surprised when he saw they also offer videography courses and even a course on GIMP. He is an avid photographer and wanted to learn how to use GIMP to edit his photos.
We did not go through the courses as fast as is suggested, as my son really wanted to see quite a few of the courses all at once. However, my son was able to take what he learned already regarding websited design and quickly create a small website while talking to his grandpa. The courses are broken down into easily understood parts. Each peice has a videos, activities, and a quiz to check for understanding.
“I am quite impressed with the amount of content that is available. The quality of the courses is also quite impressive. To see my son get excited about what he has learned and be able to share this knew knowledge so quickly is exciting! With the list of courses my son wants to take, this will be a keeper in our house for quite a while.”

“I think that Simply Coding is a great resource for learning how to code. It prepares you to code and learning about other computer programs, and also they teach you photography editing and videography. I used Simply Coding’s Intro to Websites course and the GIMP course. I found them to be really informative and engaging. The videos in the course are very helpful. I would definitely recommend Simply Coding to a friend.”
