Awhile ago, a Facebook ad came through my newsfeed suggesting that I take a look at Elephant Learning Math Academy. I was intriqued at their claim that they could increase my daughter’s math skills by one year in just three months. You see, my daughter is already behind her age in math, so if we could speed up her progress I am all for that. Well, imagine my surprise when our family was picked to review Elephant Learning Math Academy. Here is what we found…
A Little Bit About Elephant Learning Math Academy
Elephant Learning Math Academy was developed in 2016 by Dr. Arias and Dr. Nagrath. They believe strongly that math skills can predict the future success of our children. Because of this, they developed this program to foster early math skills and increase math proficiency for those ages 2-16 years of age.
This platform uses online computer games to teach kids new math concepts. It has an algorithm that can increase or decrease the difficulty to match where the student is at in the learning. Elephant Learning makes the claim that your child will increase one year in math in just three months.
How We Used This Product
As you may already know, my daughter is a non-typical learner. This created a bit of an issue when we first began using this platform. To begin, the parent creates and account for the child, and as part of this process must enter a birthdate. Since my daughter is chronologically 16, the program decided she was ready for harder material than she actually is capable of.
The first thing a new student must complete is a placement exam. Needless to say, even the placement exam was too difficult. After some moments of frustration, I decided to change her birthdate to one that more closely reflects her academic age. Once I did this, the program readjusted itself to be more at her level.
Since then, she has been using Elephant Learning 3-4 times per week for about 20-30 minutes. She really likes the games, and she loves the fact that the program knows and uses her name. Parents can set up how long each session should be ahead of time, and my daughter loves knowing that the program will tell her when she is finished with her math for the day.
I can say that they are true to their claims of learning 1 year of math in just three months. According to the progam, she started at 4.9 years and is not performing math at 5.9 years. However, I am not sure how they measure this, as her math skills have not increased across other platforms. I still do like the program for the fun practice it is providing.
Ruth (age 17)
“I like the games. Sometimes I get ones wrong, and then I get them right later.”
“Elephant Learning is provides a fun, online game feel that helps keep kids engaged. It definately works to adapt to the child, and helps to keep kids from getting frustrated. My daughter does not complain about using the program, and loves the many choices in activities.”
