Find Great Books For Your Homeschool At Library and Educational Services LLC

I love being able to homeschool my kids. It is rewarding to get to watch my kids blossom and grow. But, it can also be very expensive. That is why I am always on the look out for ways to make things more economical. When my family was picked to review several selections from Library and Educational Services LLC, we were very excited, as we had heard they have a wide selection of quality books at a very reasonable price. Here is what we found…

A Little Bit About Library and Educational Services LLC

Library and Educational Services LLC is an organization that sells books, CDs and DVDs at a wholesale price. They sell primarily to schools and churches, but they also sell to homeschool families. The best news is that they give the same great prices to homeschool families as they do to the churches and schools.

All of their selections are friendly to Christian values, so you won’t have to worry about what your children will come across. At 30-70% off list prices, your budget won’t have to take a hit either. Our family can attest to the quality of the selections they carry as well.

A Little Bit About The Selections We Picked

This has been a very fun review, because we were given the opportunity to pick the items we wanted. There are so many titles to choose from, that I have to admit, it was a pretty tough decision. We will be returning after the review to add a few more items to our collection.

The Who Was…? Series

This series is really pretty awesome! Each book covers a biography of a famous person either from today or from history. With hundreds of titles, you should be able to find the person you are studying. We struggled with choosing just one, but in the end we picked Who Was Louis Braille?

This book is a paperback with about 100 pages. It has larger font, is easy to read, and has lots of pictures. The pictures are in black and white, but are still engaging. Being a special needs family, we found it fun to learn about a pioneer in adaptive technology. Some of the other titles they carry in this series are also on our list. They include famous people including:

  • Helen Keller
  • Anne Frank
  • The Wright Brothers
  • Dr. Seuss
  • Barack Obama

Lifehouse Theater Series CDs

The Lifehouse Theater Series CDs have now become a favorite in our family. We love books on CD to play in the car, and these are amazing! They are actually acted out, and not simply read by a single narrator. I love that this series includes classic literature. It is much easier to get my kids to listen to the classics rather than read them.

We were torn between two great titles, “The Misadventures of Tom Sawyer” and “Hiding in Plain Sight.” Both titles have their good features, but in the end Tom Sawyer won out. It’s summer, and listening to an adventure seemed more appropriate. We do intend to listen to the other title this fall.

CD series

In “The Misadventures of Tom Sawyer,” you feel like you are actually back in 1876 on the shores of the Mississippi River watching Tom have amazing adventures. The actors speak with the southern drawl, and they bring out the emotions and excitement of the book. We can’t wait for our next CD in this series.

Reinforced Hardcover Library Binding Nonfiction Book Series

This series includes a number of books that all have quality, reinforced bindings. Each book is similar to the books you would find in the nonfiction section of the local library. But, since you can own these titles, you won’t have to worry that they will be checked out when you need them.

Civil Rights books

Our family loves great social justice stories. Because of that, we chose two book series dealing with social justice issues – A Documentary History of the Holocaust and The Story of the Civil Rights Movement in Photographs. Both series have amazing photographs and a great overview of the covered topics.

The Civil Rights series covers the following topics, with each topic being one book in the group:

  • Birhmingham
  • Little Rock Nine
  • Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott
  • Selma
  • Freedom Rides
  • March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom
Holocaust Books

The Holocaust series coveres the following topics, with each topic being one book in the group:

  • Righteous Gentiles
  • Jewish Reisistance Against the Holocaust
  • The Warsaw Ghetto and Uprising
  • Krishtallnacht and Living in Nazi Germany
  • The Nuremberg Trials

These books will be a great addition to our homeschool library. They are great quality and will last a very long time. Since they are a series, we hope they will come in handy for lots of different topics the kids study.

Our Thoughts…

Seth (age 13)

“What I liked about the hard cover books is that they are useful and full of pictures. I liked the audio CD. The sound effects in the CD were really cool. The Who Was Louis Braille? book was full of great illustrations on every page.”

Zach (age 17)

“It was very easy to purchase the books and CD, and everything was shipped quickly. I really liked the Tom Sawyer CD, because I didn’t have to read the book. Instead, I could listen to it.”
