When your children start to get older, it’s up to you as a parent to help them make decisions about their future. The main thing that you need to think about is what they’re going to do for a career. They don’t need to decide exactly what they’re going to do right now. It is, however, a good idea for them to think about things that they enjoy. You can work together to come up with some possible career choices for them.
Let Them Love Music
A lot of parents worry if their child says that they’re interested in a creative career like music. It can be difficult to earn a stable income from, but if that’s what they want to do then it’s up to you to support them. If you have a child that is interested in music and they think that they might like to pursue it as a career, these are some of the job options that they could look into.
The most obvious choice of career is to become a musician, writing and performing music for a living. The only problem is that it’s an incredibly competitive field to get into. A large percentage of people that want to become musicians aren’t necessarily going to make it. That doesn’t mean that you should discourage your child from pursuing their passion. Instead, you should manage their expectations and prepare them for the fact that things might not work out for them.
A lot of people get the wrong idea about being a musician and they assume that you’re either a world famous superstar or you don’t make it. Happily, there is a middle ground there. A lot of people make a good living from things like playing in wedding bands or making music for TV shows and films. If your child has an interest in making their own music, you should discuss some of these other options with them.
Musicians need instruments and somebody needs to make them. This could be a good career option for your child. If they like doing something practical and working with their hands making instruments is rewarding. Consider going to Luthier school to learn how to make guitars. It’s a good middle ground for somebody that has an interest in music but does not want to pursue a career as a musician. It’s also an easier line of work to get into as long as you have the right training.
Music journalism is a great way for your child to make a career out of their love of music. They would get the chance to see live music and write reviews. They may even interview famous musicians. It can be a very rewarding career that pays well. Please know that it is difficult to get into. It will take a long while before they can start getting well paid writing jobs. But, if this is a career that they want to pursue, they need to be prepared for that.
These are all great career options to look into if your child has a keen interest in music and wants to do something music related as a job.
